My dissertation Journey!

Updated: Dec 22, 2021

Are you currently working on your dissertation? Well if you are? You are not alone. I started my dissertation journey on December 14, 2014. I became interested in taking this journey in 2014, a few months prior to the completion of my Master's degree in Special Education. My Master's degree process was very challenging because I have a medically fragile daughter who has been hospitalized frequently (20 times) with life threatening illnesses. One of my close friend (female) assisted me with grammar checking through-out my Masters Degree process. She advised me not to go for the Doctorate program. She said "it would be extremely difficult, and, I would never make it because of my circumstances with my medically fragile daughter". I decided that she was wrong, no one can tell me what I can accomplish.

I then decided to start the doctoral journey; at first it was to prove a point, now I have grown to really enjoy reading research articles. I currently being taught by a Grand Canyon University/chairperson/ instructor;she has taught me how to read and understand each literature review in any research article. Since then the sky has been the limit for me. Now comes my challenges. It's been a very difficult journey for me, but I accept the challenge. My parents, siblings and children have been really supportive in every way imaginable. I am almost at the end of my 7- year journey and I am feeling the pressured since my time will run out next year December, 2021( In-between) I took about a 1 1/2yrs off and hope GCU will allow me to gain a year and half. I am currently doing everything possible to be successful. My time is not my own any more. I try to spend all the time I considered free time reading journal articles, dissecting them, and writing. I still have to work, spend time with my children and care for my daughter with medical special needs. It's has been quite a journey, however, I refuse to give up. Are you on a dissertation journey? Please tell me about it. I would love to hear about it and so would others who are on the same journey as us. This will be our way of being supportive to each other while learning new skills on how others have mastered this journey.
